Speedometer Not Working And Transmission Not Shifting. The speedometer is not working. Cars produced after 1990 are usually equipped with speed sensors which may crash and cease to transmit speed readings to the speedometer. Also the transmission will not shift out of low gear. I have a 1994 ford f-150 my odometer is not working and the automatic transmission is not shifting right.
I unplugged the battery to reset the computer then gave it a test run. Here is what I when driving notice. The speed sensor has a magnet that reads between teeth on a gear within the tail shaft of the transmission. Out of the blue my speedometer stopped working and the van will not shift out of first gear. I have a 2008 Silverado 1500 work truck single can short bed with a 43L v6 auto trans 2wd. Also the transmission will not shift out of low gear.

SpeedometerOdometer not working hard shifting Feb 25 2013 922pm It could actually be a coincidence like some bad wiring that got moved when they did the repair that they really didnt damage or they may have shorted something out. Hey guys Well this is a pretty easy fix and i will link my other video below on how to fix this. Why should a transmission problem cause the speedometer and odometer to not work. Here is what I when driving notice. Replace the vehicle speed sensor and inspect the driven gear upon sensor removal. No prior indication of any tranny issues.
